Ginger's watchful supervision during construction

You will notice that we do not cage or house our Dobies in a traditional manner. We have a Kennel complex that they are free to enjoy with areas for food and water, cooling, sleeping, playing, and training. We do not look at our Dobies as investments or just pets. They are trusted and loved members of our family. We spend several hours a day caring for the Dobies well being and growth. We supplement their diet with Nuvet Pet Plus vitamins to ensure well rounded health and nutrition.

Our Kennel started as a piece of property directly off the Southwest corner of our existing property. We started by stripping several inches of top soil to remove all weeds , stumps and overgrowth. After the earth moving was complete a thorough raking was done to improve soil condition and remove any debris. An irrigation system was put in place and the area was seeded with a hearty sun/shade grass mix to tolerate the 90% shade in the area as well as the high traffic.

Automatic Water System

Electronic timers control the water system to the Kennel. Sprinklers and Aqua Mist Coolers run every 4-6 hours for 30-90 minute intervals.

Food & Water

The same system that runs our sprinkler and Aqua Mist Coolers flush the dogs available water. We use two Pet Cafe Bulk Free Choice Feeders with integrated water. Every 4-6 hours the water is flushed and cooled with fresh water to ensure the health and comfort of our Dobies. We wash and disinfect the food and water systems weekly.
We feed only human grade dry dog food. We do not feed dry food that contains corn or soy. Our food is 2 variations of the same brand which we rotate for good nutrition and flavorful variety.

Waste Handling

Having a healthy kennel means handling waste properly. We use an on site waste digester that breaks down the waste and renders it into an odorless, and non toxic form that is absorbed harmlessly into the ground. This system is our own design , and has allowed us an odorless and sanitary kennel.

Housing

Our Dobies share a custom frame style home centrally located in the Kennel complex. It is approximately 75 square feet and is outfitted with an auxiliary blower style fan that operates from 7:30 am to 10:00 pm for cooling and circulation. If temperatures rise above 85 degrees an Air Conditioning unit will activate and clear plastic drapes will cover the common door of the house. It is lined with 6 inches of a mixture of cedar and hardwood chips for comfort and pest control. Pine Mulch is used throughout the Kennel Complex for lounging, and tree trunk lining for ease of mowing and weed control.
